Baked my cake. And ate it too.
I’d never thought that one of the introductory posts on my new TRAVEL blog would be about…erm…a CAKE!
BUT, we live in strange times.
I toyed with the idea of launching a travel blog for almost two years now. I’ve wanted to fill you in on all my quirky travel finds, some crazy but inspiring stories, great travel information and so much more from the perspective of a 30-year-old brown female with a pretty weak travel passport.
And the best time to get it started has come around when I, no wait, the entire world is on a lock down. No work, no play. And mostly, no travel.
We are all following our respective government’s orders and are confined to our homes because of the big bad coronavirus. For the past month, Instagram and Facebook has thrown endless hashtag challenges at me, from fitness to cooking to motivational stuff. I’ve watched a lot of friends’ failed attempts to follow fitness routines and a lot of success in baking cakes and pasta. Mostly banana bread though. Don’t ask me why. My best guess is grocery-planning-gone-wrong and bananas-gone-ripe.
Travel to Baking in 4 easy steps
Well, I caved in. I decided to bake. A forest berry lemon cake at that! I love berries and I love sour stuff. This berrylicious cake of mine was going to be a perfect companion for all those Netflix-ridden evenings to come. All it really took was:
- Staring long and hard at all the baking material that had been sitting around in my kitchen cabinet
- Wondering if I still had it in me, given I have all the time in the world and no flight to catch
- Scrolling through 1000’s of cake recipes on millions of awesome food blogs
- Getting down and dirty
Once the virus passes and the shutdown ends, I will have tried out all the cake recipes on my favourite baking blogs and will be ready to take to the skies and travel again. But as I write this, there seems to be plenty of time for all of that. So I am just going to sit back, reminisce my past travels and day dream about future ones. Write about them occasionally on this blog. And then bake some more.
Yes, the cake is pretty loaded. Tastes like heaven too. But Baker by Nature has a super easy recipe to follow. The site even has a “Tips and Tricks for Recipe Success” section.
My Twist
I added more than just frozen raspberries. I added strawberries, blueberries and raspberries! Makes it that much more berrylicious. Happy baking, folks.
